Discussion & book presentation – "Andrej Sacharow: The man without fear."

Many see Andrej Sacharow, the father of the Russian hydrogen bomb, as an icon of resistance. After becoming aware of the dangers of his research, the physicist tirelessly warned of the horrors of a nuclear war. Sacharow stood up against the policies of the Soviet Union and continued to fight against censorship, lack of freedom, and state arbitrariness in his homeland, even after his banishment to Gorki. Regarding the developments in Russia under autocrat Putin, his story is more important than ever - and an important tale of the fight for democracy, peace and the protection of our world.

Sergey Lukashevskiy from the Russian exile media Radio Sakharov, Ute Kochlowski-Kadjaia (Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom), and David Schraven (CORRECTIV) will discuss the current situation in Russia. And talk about those people who, despite being displaced from their homeland, continue to fight for freedom, justice, and democracy. The occasion is the release of the graphic novel „Andrej Sacharow: The man without fear,“ which illustrates the story of the Russian physicist’s life and his fight for democratic values. The book is published by CORRECTIV Verlag and was created in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut e.V., the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, and CORRECTIV.Exile. CORRECTIV.Exile launched in early July 2024 and aims to connect politically persecuted exiles and support them in their fight for more democracy.

**The talk will be held in German and Russian with consecutive interpretation. **
